"Another Booner Get’s Away"

Well, I wish I was writing to tell you about a Booner (another 200”) that we had riding in the back of the Chevy on the way home but I guess we didn’t get that lucky on this trip! What another great hunt at Sugar Creek but we just couldn’t seem to seal the deal.

Pat passed on quite a few nice bucks just waiting for that monster to come in and well he did but there was just one problem, we were out of the tree! Pat and I had decided to set up in the woods that evening because we knew they had been chasing hard. It had been pouring ran and the only deer we had seen were a doe and fawn that had walked the trail right under our stand. It had been a couple hours since we had seen them so Pat and I discussed it and we decided to get down a couple minutes early go check out the fields to see what was shakin. So we did our usual routine of me getting down out of the tree first and him lowering his bow to me.

Well as soon as I unhooked his bow I looked up and he was telling me there was a deer coming. So, what did I do, I just slipped behind the tree thinking it would be another doe or a little buck but what I’m going to tell you next, well let’s just say you won’t be able to believe! All of a sudden I see a rack coming over the hill and there stands a 170” 10 pointer cold trailing the doe and fawn and where am I, I’m standing there with Pat’s bow in my hand and he’s up in the tree filming the entire thing! The buck walks in 10 yards, yep that’s right 10 yards and gives me PLENTY of opportunities to get a shot but I didn’t eat my wheaties that day so there was no way I was pulling back ol’ Patrick’s bow! The buck never spotted me on the ground and just walked off as I just wanted to get sick! I absolutely couldn’t believe my eyes! I was standing 10 yards from a 170” monster on the ground! Now that was an adrenaline rush!

Sorry for Pat we couldn’t get it done on this trip, but like we’ve said before, We WILL be back! Later on in the year we are going to head back down there and see if we can get it done then! Say a prayer for Patrick because at this point of time, he needs it! We hope your season is going a little better than his, but it was a hard lesson learned! This was only the beginning because we know what lives at Sugar Creek so those deer are in some major trouble when we get back down there! Take care and talk to you soon!

Stay Driven,

Pat & Nicole
